The American Veterinary Medical Association turns a blind eye to some of the most horrific animal cruelty practices known to man.  

First, there’s Ventilation Shutdown (VSD). They allow Big Agriculture to turn up the heat, lock helpless pigs and birds in barns with ZERO air, and leave them there to die slowly.  

As if that’s not disturbing enough, there’s more.  

AVMA condones and even recommends the use of blunt force trauma (a.k.a., “thumping”) as an industry standard for killing sick or small piglets.  

This method is to slam a newborn onto the concrete ground, or against a cement wall. Too often, these piglets don’t die right away and lay there suffering.  

And AVMA gives Big Pork a pass to keep doing these things instead of sticking up for the animals in need of their care.  

AVMA is promoting needless suffering and cruelty.

Dr. President Topper, 

I appeal to your sense of kindness, and your sense of duty.   Rather than allowing Big Pork to act on their own terms, you can stop these horrific practices.  

There’s a reason blunt force trauma is outlawed in many countries – it is simply too cruel.  Consider the needless suffering of these innocent animals. You have the power – please, use it for good.  

I urge you to issue a “not recommend” and raise the standards — end “thumping” immediately.
